From vines that are about 50 years old, situated in the locality of Gevrey-Chambertin in the climate called Charmes-Chambertin. Facing South-East and at an altitude of 250 metres, they are planted in a fine brown limestone soil. From a well-known supplier of Charmes-Chambertin grapes. Carel reports that the quality is fine, with good analysis, so he is able to vinify them with 100% whole bunches. Fine deep crimson colour, with a classy, stylish nose, a complex range of red fruit and darker notes, with the underlying white pepper, notes on the palate. This degree of ripeness lends itself very well to including all the stems. Tested: October 2020 93-96 Points, Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy The 2019 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru shows the 60% whole bunch on the nose, slightly overshadowing the blackberry and briary aromas. It’s quite Morey-like in style. The palate is well balanced with a structured opening, though perhaps not quite as precise and as elegant as the Clos de la Roche. There’s a touch of dryness on the finish. -- (91-93) points, Neal Martin, Vinous
