A limited cuvee fashioned from the hardest type of limestone (called Asteries), this blend of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc, the brilliance of this 2008 is no doubt due to the tiny yields and extremely old vines (some of which pre-date the killer frost of 1956). The wine exhibits an inky/purple color, incredible density, and notes of graphite, barbecue smoke, blackberries, and creme de cassis. The oak component is well-concealed, and the huge tannins are remarkably sweet and well-integrated. This stunning St.-Emilion should evolve for a least a decade."
