Chateau Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande 1994

Chateau Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande is one of the most important Super Second, in the best years, it is one of the most exotic and voluptuously scented wines of Mèdoc.

Pop the cork, wonderfully stinky in all the right ways. Barnyard for days, wet rock, creosote, leather, cigar, cedar. Masculine like the day is long. The beauty of this wine, for us, is the nose. I want to make an incense stick out of the notes of this wine. The palate: earthy, tarish, forest floor, some cedar, zero fruit, tannins still hang on the finish. We were intoxicated by the nose, the palate doesn’t match but an experience nonetheless. We’d buy this again for the nose alone.
