Chatillon is Ed Peter‘s (owner of Australia’s Yarra Yering) project in the French Alps. Vines up to 40 years of age grown in Chautagne area of Savoie close to Lac de Bourget (formerly known as “Chatillon”) south east of Annecy in the French Alps. The label depicts the castle, Chateau de Chatillon (goes back to 1125 and has been refurbished into a residence) situated on the property. Historically, the wines of Savoie have been consumed locally as the region only produces less than 1% of France’s wine production. The wines were rarely seen outside of the region, let alone outside of France. Organic viticultural practices (uncertified), 100% estate grown fruit, handpicking and hands off winemaking practices in the winery: wild yeasts, some solids in ferments. No oak maturation All Estate grown Gamay grapes with a touch of pinot (10%), Vin de Savoie AOC. Mouthwatering salmon colour, aromatic Rosé … lovely juicy red fruits and stone fruit with pristine alpine acidity. Dry provencal style, more-ish, delicious with lively mountain acidity. A salute to Mont Blanc… Fabulous spring/summer bargain drinking on offer here. This new 2018 release is on song – delightfully crisp and fresh. 12% Alc Under screwcap.
