If you are a fan of the Comtes Lafon Montrachet and comfortable enough to shop for it, make sure to put in extra effort to finding bottles of the 2015 version, as the frost damage here was so severe in 2016 that there will be none produced from the domaine. The quantity of grapes in the vineyard was so small that Comtes Lafon has pooled their grapes with those from five other domaines in the vineyard (including DRC and Domaine Leflaive) to make a blended Montrachet in 2016 from their combined grapes. The 2015 Montrachet is stunning wine, soaring from the glass in a magical blend of pear, tangerine, fresh almond, chalky, complex soil tones, spring flowers and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and very, very pure on the attack, with a great core, stunning energy and a very long, laser-like and racy finish. Sheer brilliance!
