This Meursault Sous la Velle is refined, generous and complex. Domaine Rougeot has a long history of making superb white wines out of the famed village of Meursault. The “Sous la Velle” climat is located at the foot of the Meursault hill opposite the Chateau de Meursault. In that part of Meursault, we find much richer soils and less limestone. These grapes usually ripen later than the grapes from the vineyards located on the slope of the Meursault hill. The “Sous la Velle” shows great generosity at first, always opening up quickly and delivering plenty of white flowers, fresh white peach, almond flavours and buttery notes. It goes well with poultry served with creamy sauce, foie gras, cured meat and a great range of seafood such as barramundi, lobster and crabs. Ready to drink or to cellar up until 2028+. The domaine has 2.2ha of which 1.5ha is an excellent millerand selection and the rest more productive, not ripening so well but important for the balance of the cuvée. Pierre-Henri sells off what he doesn’t need of the latter, but the proportion will vary according to the year. First to be picked. Quite a full yellow but the bouquet has maintained freshness. This has greater persistence than the Bourgogne Grandes Gouttes but is otherwise not that much superior. 90-93 points, Jasper Morris. 100% Chardonnay.
