Elderton Helbig 1915 Barossa Valley Shiraz 2020 Single-vineyard shiraz planted in 1915 by the Helbig family in Greenock. Aged for 24 months in French oak. An impressively proportioned wine with considerable fruit density and power. Broody and concentrated blackberry and dark plum fruits with hints of cassis, clove, coal dust, sour cherry, salted licorice, dark chocolate, turned earth and dried herbs. It's no wallflower with a thick-shouldered, lumbering gait across the palate, super-concentrated black fruits, tight assertive tannins the provide savoury support and a hint of alcohol on the intense finish. One for the power hounds. Rating: 95 Points Source: Dave Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion 2023
