Crafted to honour fifth-generation winemaker Stephen Henschke’s father, Cyril, The Wheelwright is a tribute to legacy and craftsmanship, sourced from mature, sustainably grown vines in the Eden Valley. The 2021 vintage is a shining example of cool-climate Shiraz—elegant yet deeply expressive. Aromas of blackberry, Satsuma plum and black cherry are woven with layers of clove, star anise, and cedar, lifted by floral notes of violet and rosehip. The palate is finely structured, with silky tannins, bright acidity, and a core of dark fruit framed by savoury spice and minerality. Aged in fine-grained French oak, this is a poised, medium-bodied Shiraz of depth, purity and remarkable finesse—built to evolve gracefully over the next two decades.

James Suckling awarded this vintage 96 points, describing it as "a deeply brooding wine with aromas of plums, mocha, spices, and dried herbs... Very refined, balanced and pure, with an underlying power." Winepilot also rated it 95 points, noting the wine's "beguilingly aromatic" profile and its potential for graceful aging.
