Few names in wine carry the weight of Leroy. Lalou Bize-Leroy presides over perhaps the most extensive portfolio of top-notch sites in the Côtes de Nuits, and her Maison Leroy draws from the best expressions of terroir from across Burgundy, negotiating directly with producers and vinifying in-house the wines that carry the Leroy label. Bourgogne Gamay AOC is a relatively new designation, necessarily drawing from Beaujolais Cru villages, with the possibility of some pinot noir mixed in. Whereas Bourgogne Passetoutgrain must consist of at least a third pinot noir, this category is not limited to that ratio. This release constitutes the first Leroy Beaujolais available in this country. Delicious and approachable, with floral as well as mineral complexity, it offers ripe fruit and wonderful balance. Biodynamically grown, low-intervention/natural wine, vegan.
