Sandrone Barbera d'Alba is a red wine made with the Barbera variety in the DOC Barbera d'Alba (Piedmont) by winemaker Luciano Sandrone. Luciano Sandrone, one of the most prestigious winemakers in Piedmont, is known for making wines that are faithful to the terroir and very personal in style. His career began as a winemaker in the oldest winery in Barolo –Marchesi di Barolo–, and he now runs his small but great project producing 60,000 bottles per year under five labels. Sandrone Barbera d'Alba comes from the Cascina Pe Mol, Merli and Rocche di San Nicola plots. Vineyards planted on a slope, in sandy soil and exposed to the sun from the south-southeast. They use traditional and environmentally-friendly agriculture. The harvest is carried out manually at the optimum moment of ripeness. Each Sandrone Barbera d'Alba vineyard is vinified separately. After a slow and gentle pressing, maceration takes place in open stainless steel tanks for the first 8 days. It then ferments spontaneously with native yeasts for about 20 days. Aging takes place over 12 months in 500-litre French oak barrels, half of which are new. Once bottled, it is stored in the winery for 9 months before being released for sale. Sandrone Barbera d'Alba is an impressively elegant and complex red wine with a promising future thanks to its bright acidity.
