Marion’s Teroldego vineyards were originally propagated with cuttings obtained from the mother of Teroldego: Elizebetha Foradori and planted at Marion in 1994. The result is a unique expression of what is usually a light bodied, dark coloured and intensely perfumed varietal that has the additional concentration of flavour and aromatics that the dried grape portion offers. Composed 100% from Teroldego. Appessimento (dried) grapes make up 10 to 15% of the overall blend. The portion of this wine made from these dried grapes are strictly fermented and aged separately from the ‘normal’ fermented grapes, then blended in before aging. Fermented in stainless steel then transferred into barrel for 36 months or so. Only 10% now sees small barrel (500ltr) with the rest in 3000ltr, all Slovenian oak. “The 2017 Teroldego is seductive with a bouquet that pulls you towards the glass to take in its captivating mix of woodland herbs, crushed wild berries and dried florals. It enters the palate silky and pliant, with a wave of mineral-tinged red and black fruits carried across a core of bright acidity, as fine tannins slowly mount towards the close. The 2017 is currently a bit backward and youthfully withdrawn, yet densely packed with unseen depths. This finishes long and leaves a staining of licorice, along with a hint of mocha. Bury this for a number of years in the cellar.”- Vinous
