Medium-depth ruby to brick-red colour. The bouquet is savoury, nutty, dried leather and earth aromas predominating, overtones of dried flowers and dried herbs. The wine is loaded with very drying tannins and very savoury flavours, firmer and less immediately charming than the Bric Balin, but it does merit longer aeration before final judgement. At first, it struck me as rather dried-out and deficient in fruit. After two hours in the glass, it showed a lot more fruit, balance and character. And served with protein to tame the tannin, it came into its own. Verily, a food wine—and excellent. Drink: 2022–2038
