The 2018 Echézeaux Grand Cru is the broadest, most flamboyant wine in the range, bursting with aromas of raspberries, plums, licorice and toasty new oak. Full-bodied, rich and enveloping, it's gourmand and fleshy, with velvety tannins, succulent acids and an ample core of fruit. I suspect that after a decade in the cellar it will seem more classically proportioned than it does today-as has been the case with Mongeard's fine 2003s-though readers who appreciate riper styles of red Burgundy may also find it hard to resist in its youth. It's a blend of Echézeaux du Dessus and Les Treux.
