Sons of Eden have a simple philosophy to produce wines with flavour and personality from vineyards of unique character within the world class Barossa region. Specialising in varieties such as Shiraz, Grenache, Mourvedre and Riesling. Sons of Eden takes its name from the two partners, winemakers Corey Ryan and Simon Cowham, who both learnt and refined their trades in the vineyards and cellars of Eden Valley. The Kennedy is a classic blend of old vine Barossa Grenache, Shiraz and Mourvedre varieties. Named as a tribute to the legendary Barossa Vigneron’s who pioneered the planting of the old treasured vineyards, which the Barossa enjoys today. The Grenache fruit is the ‘soul’ of this blend and is from an exceptionally low yielding 50+ year-old Light Pass Vineyard. Originally planted by the Kennedy Family, with ownership eventually being passed onto the charismatic Leo ‘Joe’ Kennedy who nurtured the vines for many years, selling his prized fruit to local winemakers. 52/27/21% grenache/shiraz/mourvèdre from up to 100+yo vines. Matured 12 months in large old oak puncheons. Ripe plummy goodness from the first sip, with light floral facets flitting around above the fruit, which sits on a base of exotic spice, earth, kirsch and roasting meats. Superfine sandy tannins lends support. It has a lively line, great balance and presents both super drinking and great value. Rating: 94 Points; Dave Brookes; James Halliday Wine Companion
