Yangarra Roussanne 2016

Arguably the best site in Blewitt Springs, and, indeed, exceedingly beautiful, Yangarra Estate is undeniably one of the most consistent and remarkable producers in McLaren Vale. Established in 2000, the 160ha site is planted exclusively to varieties of the southern Rhône; the balance of 80ha is reserved for native vegetation (the vineyards are certified biodynamic). Under the generous stewardship of Jackson Family Wines and legendary winemaker Pete Fraser, the wines at this estate are pure and exacting, though they continue to reach new heights. The High Sands Grenache is benchmark quality for the region and the nation, oftentimes too, showing up its international counterparts. Pete is partial to a ceramic egg, and the estate is turning out incredibly textural and brilliant white wines too – the Roux Beaute Roussanne and Ovitelli Blanc both exceptionally notable. After 25 years, much-loved and respected vineyard manager, Michael Lane, retired from his post. His dedication to improving the soil health and subsequent commitment to biodynamic farming practices, without question, have been instrumental to Yangarra’s success.
