"They consider their 2018 J Alberto their premier cru in the Burgundian pyramid of quality. It comes from an old, ungrafted 4.5-hectare vineyard planted with a field blend that is mostly Malbec with some 5% Merlot that is cultivated organically and certified by Ecocert. 2018 saw a cold and wet spring with some hail before the harvest, which resulted in half the normal crop. It fermented with 25% full clusters and 20% crushed berries with their own cultivated yeasts. Fifteen percent of the volume was raised in concrete eggs, 40% in used French barriques, 10% in demi-muids and the rest in stainless steel for ten months. The wine is harmonious, combining elegance with power, and the oak felt perfectly integrated but enhanced the texture. This has very good freshness and continues in the path of lightness from the previous vintage.” Oct 2019
